Hey Champs,
Hope you're all doing well. Unlike most, my weekend isn't quite a break. I had a class yesterday, and today is all about preparing for tomorrow. As Abishola wisely puts it in "Bob Hearts Abishola," the weekend seems reserved for the lazy ones. Strange topic to ponder, right? Well, let me explain why it's on my mind.
During a recent pathology lecture, the topic shifted to genetics, but I found myself drifting away. My mind wandered, and I ended up doodling in my notes. It was one of those moments where the only "genes" that mattered were the ones in my denim. Get it?
While doodling, I couldn't help but recall how medical students and professionals often get dragged on social media platforms like Obasanjo's internet or Elon's bird app. Take, for instance, a recent Twitter exchange between users "Efoya" and "Godman_TheFirst”.
Efoya's tweet questioning non-MBBs individuals claiming to be "medical students" sparked a debate. Godman_TheFirst countered, labeling it as "gatekeeping" and advocating for the term "medical student" to be inclusive. The thread continued with others chiming in, discussing the importance of maintaining professional identities.
So, who truly deserves the title of "medic"? Should there be a distinct term for non-medical individuals akin to "lay person" or "civilian"? Perhaps "patients" come closest?
What are your thoughts?
Please do say a prayer for my seniors(U15MD) who are commencing their exams on Monday.
Patient comes closest 😂😂
I think they need medical attention too 😅
I wish the U15MD FAM success in their exams, Aameen.
For me, if the word medical was actually coined from medicine ( which means the science and practice of caring for a patient, managing the diagnosis, prognosis, prevention, treatment, palliation of their injury or disease, and promoting their health. Medicine encompasses a variety of health care practices evolved to maintain and restore health by the prevention and treatment of illness.) then any professional course oriented towards this definition is entitled mehn. Afterall, we all are centered towards patients care and that's the goal kawaii
